12.17.11SGR & GPCI Cuts Hang in the Balance

Late last night, Democrats and Republicans agreed to a $1 trillion spending bill that will avert a government shutdown this weekend. That will allow Congress to turn its attention back to an "extenders" bill, including a patch to the SGR.
Although the House-passed bill contained a 2-year patch to the SGR, and stopped CMS from implementing the GPCI payment cuts, it was DOA in the Senate. Today, the Senate is expected to release its version of the House bill.
Optimism turned to gloom late yesterday as talk of a "Plan B" to the extenders bill was heard on Capitol Hill.
